Lumina Daze at Wrightsville Beach

A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

Goodnight, Irene, We'll See You in Our Dreams!

Wrightsville Beach Museum of History wants to thank our sponsors, donors, musicians, volunteers, and valiant supporters who were not intimidated by Irene and came out to dance the night away and walk out with untold treasures from our Live and Silent Auctions!

Thank you!  Your support keeps our doors open, our collections safe, and our programs intact.

MUSIC:
Music was provided by Wilmington Big Band, Buddy Skipper and the Jetty Jumpers with Carey Patterson and Pug West, Phil and Mark, and the Dixieland All-Stars.  We even had Elvis Presley performing before he was purchased for a party at the Live Auction!  There was dancing in the Blockade Runner ballroom, on the patio by the pool and in the lobby.

Echoes from the past,
Lumina Pavilion remembered

The Blockade Runner courtyard buzzed with music, memories and laughter Sunday night, Aug. 28 at the Wrightsville Beach Museum's annual Lumina Daze.

SILENT AUCTION:
Our popular silent auction offered prints, paintings, and photography; canvas bags made locally, a ukulele, and wine and chocolates; jewelry, candles and sculpture; services from attorneys, chiropractors, and genealogists; dinners from a favorite local caterer and local restaurants; a dhurrie rug, a child's silver Mercedes-Benz convertible, and a model of a 1955 Chris-Craft runabout.

LIVE AUCTION:
At our live auction supporters came away with 4-nights on a Carnival Cruise, an evening with Elvis impersonator, Terry Horton, a 45-minute airplane excursion, a painting depicting Lumina's history by George Pocheptsov, a week-stay at a mountain cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 2-night stay at Riverview Suites on the Wilmington Riverfront, lunch for three with author/radio commentator Nan Graham, an afternoon sail and hors d'oeuvres departing from Wrightsville Beach, a Joyride Softdeck Standup Paddleboard and a Sector 9 Longboard Skateboard.  Wow!  A bunch of people are going to have a lot of fun!

UPPER DECK REUNION:
Another new addition to Lumina Daze was the Upper Deck Reunion.  When the grand ballroom of Lumina faded in the 1950's, a small bar and grill opened in the south end of the building called The Upper Deck.  Jack Lane, the last manager of the Upper Deck, attended Lumina Daze to visit with old friends and to share his memorabilia.  We took down names and contact information to keep in touch with this special group of beach fans.

Photos will be up soon!
