Lumina Daze 2005

12th Annual Lumina Daze Celebration
Old-Fashioned Beach Fun & Festivities

Visitors seeking wholesome old-fashioned fun will want to be in Wrightsville Beach on Sunday, August 28 when the 12th Annual Lumina Daze celebration celebrates the islands heritage with 1930s-style festivities, big band music and dance, children's games, and movies on the beach.

Families, couples and individuals will step back in time under a summer full moon when the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History presents the Lumina Daze event in celebration of the island's 100+ year heritage. Relive the era of the 1930's at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort (275 Waynick Blvd., Wrightsville Beach) for a nostalgic evening of wholesome family fun beginning at 5:00pm until 10:00pm.

Experience Wrightsville Beach as it was when famous jazz musicians performed at the legendary Lumina, an island landmark for 68 years until its demolition in 1973.

Activities include old time beach games such as sack races, three-legged races, ring toss, face painting and cake walks. The Blockade Runner Resort's ballroom sets the stage for Wilmington's favorite orchestra the Wilmington Big Band.

There will be a cappella/barber shop music with the Cape Fear Chordsmen and the Harmony Belles.

A silent auction to benefit the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History features a wide assortment of fine art, services and specialties from local businesses.

One of the most popular activities is the screening of a movie on the beach at dusk, just as movies were shown years ago at Lumina. This year's line up includes Little Rascals shorts and “A Day at the Race's” a Marx Brother's film. So bring your lounge chairs and beach blankets and enjoy a black-and-white period film.

Have fun turning back the hands of time during Lumina Daze on Sunday August 28th at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach.

Tickets are $12.00 in advance and $15.00 the day of the event. Proceeds benefit the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History. For advance tickets or more information call (910) 256-2569 or email wbmuseum@bizec.rr.com.
